About Me

I am Dr. Bhaskar Mukherjee, a Doctor & Physician specialising in Brain and its treatment in entirety.

There is a line drawn demarcating neurology and psychiatry implying that the two can be dealt with independently by past practitioners which I do not agree with. I  figured out this inconsistency when I started my training in psychiatry post my MBBS. 

Ever since I started my EMD, I distanced myself from psychiatry as the trend of integrating non medical & non tangible aspects into it defeated the whole purpose of understanding the brain & the science behind it. I have always maintained psychiatry as a larger discipline in brain & brain only. 

So after I completed my MD, I pursued various formal and non formal training on neurogenitics & here I stand joining the invisible dots between neurology and psychiatry, something which has been ignored completely so far by many. You may call me a Psychiatrist or a Neurologist but it has been my firm belief that a combination of these two is important to deal with entire brain and conditions involved with brain. You cannot isolate the two! 

I treat Multiple Sclerosis, Psychosis, Epilepsy, Mania, Depression, Autoimmune Encephalitis and anything that has to do with brain and conditions involved with brain. 
I do genetic counselling, morphological assessments & treatment based on medical discipline. I am a doctor who is competent, trained & confident in biomedical science related to brain, the dysfunction of brain as an organ, treatment or reversal of the dysfunction. Psst! There is no place for psychology and philosophy here!

My Academics, Experience, Expertise & Training

I’ve done my MBBS from NRS Medical College and then did my MD in Psychiatry from University College of Medicine, Kolkata.

While pursuing my MD, I realized traditional psychiatry teaching doesn’t involve the brain. Which seemed like an irrational curriculum for me. So after my MD I learnt genetics and molecular neuroscience both formally and informally. And that’s been a journey that changed my understanding of the brain and I am still evolving my understanding of the brain. I don’t talk about the nonexistent mind and don’t have any ideas about the nonexistent mind anymore. I talk about the genetics of the brain and its diseases to my patients and teach them how to deal with the lifelong genetic vulnerabilities and then treat them accordingly. I also teach future students about the brain and I spend a large amount of time in spreading awareness about brain health and brain disorders which has been largely neglected due to marketing and hype of nonexistent mental health. 
I offer genetic advice to my patients and offer them genetic counseling during pregnancy.
Lastly I’ve almost entirely forgotten about the artificial divide between neurology and psychiatry and I don’t know if they differ anymore. And I try to teach other medical professionals the same thing.
